Hunting Experiences for the Novice and Trophy Hunters
Hunting In Canada This is a twelve-day Spring and Fall Hunt for the colorful Mountain Grizzly Bear. This part of British Columbia has prime habitat for Black Bear. In fact there is such a large population that the Government allows the opportunity for each hunter to harvest two Black Bears per year. An extra Species Tag is required. The Black Bear Hunting areas contain many miles of aspen trees and open grass lands on south facing slopes which green-up early in the spring, plus many logging clear-cuts that provide food and shelter in the spring, wild berries in the fall. The bears feed on new grass growing along the miles of logging roads. Hunters have an excellent chance of success and are likely to see up to a dozen bears in a day of guided hunting. Grizzly Bear

These spring Grizzly Bear hunts are operated from a Base at Francois Lake and a satellite camp at Collins Lake, which is in view of the of the coastal mountains.
During the spring time, the Grizzly Bear breed and the boars are roaming around looking for available sows. The snow levels on the mountains keep the bears from roaming up high, so they remain in the valley bottoms and south-facing slopes where the new vegetation is growing. The Grizzly Bear hunts are from the middle of May to the middle of June. The success rate is around 50 to 60% as Grizzly Bear are the more difficult animal to hunt. You will travel numerous logging roads until tracks are found and then spend time in the area to locating the bear. It takes time to locate a trophy class animal and get the opportunity to take the bear.
One advantage in the spring is the long daylight hours, which allow for twelve to fourteen hours of hunting. You will usually return to camp to relax during the middle of the day before heading out for the long evening hours of hunting.
Fall hunts are more concentrated to hunt the wild berry patches. The days are shorter. But otherwise the hunt is basically the same as the spring hunts. The Grizzly Bear in this area are the Mountain Grizzly and they come in many different color phases. No two animals have the same coloration. They range from Silver Tip to Blond Tips to Dark Chocolate Brown with Gray areas and light colored tipped guard hairs. These animals are a true trophy. Grizzly Bears Are Dangerous and must be treated with caution. You should have a high powered rifle and the guide will have his rifle ready when hunting Grizzly. The hunter can change from hunting to being hunted with Grizzlies. They are very smart animals which makes the hunting of Grizzly a real challenge. The Guide knows the terrain and the animal, let him run the hunt and the hunter be prepared to shoot when his guide tells you.

Mountain Goat

British Columbia is home for 90% of the country's entire population of Mountain Goats.
This is a six day Mountain Goat Hunt in the vast mountainous region of the Guiding Territory. Most of this mountain region is only accessible by Float Plane to the various mountain lakes. Three different lakes are used to hunt from and only hunt each area once a year to ensure the population health to maintain a high success rate. You will travel the lakes by boat and spot the Mountain Goats on the steep mountain slopes above. The guide determines if the Mountain Goat is in a location that allows his hunter to get with in range, and be able to access the animal after taking him. Some times the Mountain Goat is in a very steep part of the mountain and you may wait a day or two until he moves to a more favorable area. Through the spotting scopes, you and the guide can determine the size before hiking up the slopes after him. You will usually hike up and hunt in one day and be back down to stay at our cabin accommodations. There are cabins on all three lakes and boats to travel to various locations to hike up into the mountain terrain above. A camp cook maintains the camp and keeps the fires going and the meals on the table. A package lunch is provided for the hike up the mountain.
The Mountain Goat hunt is from the middle of August to the middle of September, as the weather is still nice and if there is some snow, it is on the tops of the mountains. This sometimes help move the goats down the slopes closer to the lake. The weather in this part of the Province gets real hot during the summer and the Mountain Goats maintain a good hair length.
The Guide knows the mountain terrain and Mountain Goat habits, so please, let him run the hunt. His aim is to make your Mountain Goat Hunt safe, successful and enjoyable.

We offer this six day hunting package from our base at Francois Lake or Collins Lake. The Collins Lake Hunt is usually held earlier in the season and leave the last three weeks to hunt around the base operation. The hunt is on the old logged-over areas, small lakes and meadows, plus aspen open areas. You will hunt the morning and evening which leave the mid-days open for lunch and relaxation. In the late season there is only usually two hours back at camp before the afternoon hunt starts, due to the short daylight hours.
